Media Literacy Defined
Media Literacy refers to the ability
to read, analyze and critically evaluate information presented in a variety
of formats (television, print, radio, computers, etc.)
Being media literate means that you are
able to recognize the arguments and techniques used to present information
or persuade an audience to accept an opinion, buy a product, or watch a
program.

some of the skills necessary to become media literate.
A
media literate person can:
-
assess the credibility of information as well
as the credibility of the source of the information
-
recognize metaphor and other types of symbolism
used in entertainment, advertising, and political commentary
-
distinguish logical arguments from emotional appeals
-
be sensitive to both verbal and visual arguments
