E-mail: Glossary and Terms 

Attachment - any type of computer file that is sent with an E-mail message. Graphic image files and word processed documents are often sent as attachments to E-mail messages.
Bounced message - an E-mail message that, for whatever reason, cannot be delivered and is returned to the sender.
Discussion list - often called a listserv or mailing list, this is an online discussion on a particular topic, where subscribers receive the comments in the discussion in the form of E-mail.
Emoticons - also called smileys, these symbols help to convey emotion or additional meaning in an E-mail message.

Flame - an angry or rude E-mail message, usually sent to a public discussion list.
Lurking - reading but not commenting on messages sent to an online discussion list.
Netiquette - network etiquette, a set of unwritten rules pertaining to E-mail and the Web such as: DON'T TYPE IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS (because others will think you are shouting).
Spam - unwanted or unsolicited E-mail messages sent to many people at one time - Internet junk mail.
