Truncation

Truncation allows you to search the "root" form of a word with all its different endings.

Using truncation will broaden your search.
For example:
bank? will retrieve
  bank
  banks
  banking
  bankers
  bankruptcy
 
 
bank ?
bank *
bank !
bank #
bank $
Different databases and Web search engines 
use different symbols for truncation.
