Print-based Abstracts and Indexes
[various periodicals]
Articles in periodicals can be good sources of current information which may not yet be available in books or reference sources. Periodicals include newspapers and popular magazines, scholarly journals, and trade publications.

Print-based abstracts and indexes are one way to find periodical articles on your topic. They do not contain the articles themselves, but they give you all the information you need to find the articles. Indexes provide citations (author, title, magazine or journal title, volume, date and pages). Abstracts are short summaries of the articles. The term indexes generally refers to print-based tools; computerized indexes are called electronic databases and are covered in the next chapter.
